Oak Ridge Waitress sighted for breaking a plate

Image
In OakRidge Tennessee a waitress at the Hungry Rooster Restaurant was sighted by police for stepping on a plate of biscuits that she gently sat on the floor and stomped with her boot saying”THEN WELCOME TO THE SOUTH SWEETHEART “. What caused this well I will tell ya. Police say Hannah Price, 27, had been serving the group of six from out of state for nearly two hours. They reportedly complained about portion sizes, called her “darlin’” in a mocking tone, and when the check came, one man laughed and said, “Tipping’s for Yankees — we’re just visiting.” “She didn’t hit anyone, she didn’t yell,” said another diner. “She just broke that plate like it was personal.” Police cited her for disorderly conduct, and she was released at the scene. The restaurant issued a short statement: “We don’t condone violence, but we understand emotions run high in this industry.” So just so you all know we just don’t tip in the North we tip in the South as well as East and West of the Mississippi so if your o...

NRA News: some unknown facts of the United States Marine Corps

Image
During the past 250 years, the United States Marine Corps has admirably defended the liberty of our nation from myriad enemies around the globe—from the “Halls of Montezuma” to the “Shores of Tripoli” and in such well-known campaigns as Belleau Wood, Guadalcanal, Inchon, Khe Sanh and Kabul, just to name a few. However, in the 1920s, the Marines were deployed in a little-known role a lot closer to home. In 1920 and 1921, there was a rash of violent robberies of the U.S. Mail that resulted in the deaths and wounding of some postal employees and the theft of large sums of money. The situation had reached a point that the postmaster general requested some guns from the War Dept. to arm “all outside postal employees.” Most of the guns provided by the War Dept. were World War I-era Model 1917 .45-cal. revolvers. These efforts seemed to temporarily reduce the number of mail thefts. However, revolvers were hardly sufficient to stem the rash of robberies for long, and they soon resumed with a v...

Tennessee inmate executed by lethal injection in August reportedly showed "sustained cardiac activity" for nearly two minutes after Byron Black was officially pronounced dead, his attorney told a judge on Friday. This legal challenge is part of a broader lawsuit initiated in Nashville’s Chancery Court, which directly disputes the state's latest lethal injection protocol, asserting it violates both federal and state constitutional bans on cruel and unusual punishment. In the hearing, state Deputy Attorney General Cody Brandon argued that requiring members of the execution team to testify risks exposing their identities, even if their faces are hidden and their voices are disguised. Instead, he proposed that Tennessee Department of Correction officials could testify. If the inmates' attorneys designate the appropriate topics, the agency is required to provide witnesses with knowledge of those topics, he said. Henry, who leads a group of federal public defenders represen...

Exterior construction continued with the addition of the semicircular South Portico in 1824 and the North Portico in 1829. In 1901 President T. Roosevelt had all offices moved to the West wing. In 1909 President Taft created the Oval Office. In the Executive Residence, the third floor attic was converted to living quarters in 1927 by augmenting the existing hip roof with long shed dormers.  A newly constructed East Wing was used as a reception area for social events; Jefferson's colonnades connected the new wings. The East Wing alterations were completed in 1946, creating additional office space. By 1948, the residence...

University of Tennessee investigation into Chicago rat issue

Image
Michael Granatosky, the lead author of the study and an evolutionary biomechanist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, said he also thought it was a rat at first glance. But a closer look at the size of the "hands" and head made him question who was really responsible. "It created a zoological mystery," he told the Sun-Times. When the image went viral, the Sun-Times spoke with longtime neighbors of the rat hole and they said a squirrel created the imprint after likely falling into wet cement from the trees above the sidewalk. "I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble or upset anybody, but it’s a squirrel," said one resident who lived across the street from the imprint for more than 20 years. The indentation's popularity and the debate over what it was sparked Granatosky's curiosity. Nearly two years after the "Chicago Rat Hole" became a viral sensation, scientists have weighed in on the debate over what type of critter made the splat. ...

While you slept

Ever notice how, whenever a major news story dominates the headlines, something sneaky seems to happen behind the scenes? While everyone’s looking to breaking updates, governments have a way of sliding certain laws right under the radar. It’s not always malicious, but sometimes it feels a bit too convenient. From quirky regulations to eyebrow-raising bills, history is full of moments where attention was elsewhere, and new laws slipped quietly into reality. Buckle up, because these ten laws prove that what happens off camera can be just as interesting as what’s on the news. 1. The Midnight Patriot Act Extension Remember the chaos of political drama and celebrity scandals that seemed to dominate the airwaves one summer? While everyone debated reality TV show contestants and viral tweets, lawmakers quietly reauthorized key sections of the Patriot Act—again. The renewal happened late at night with minimal debate, extending surveillance powers that many thought had expired. Supporters said ...

Wartburg Cumberland trail expansion

Image
In April 2025, TennGreen Land Conservancy acquired approximately 58 acres near Wartburg to expand the Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Park and the Cumberland Trail. This important acquisition strengthens the long-term vision of connecting Tennessee’s first linear park from the Morgan County Visitor Center to Frozen Head State Park. The newly acquired property lies within several significant conservation planning areas, including the Catoosa, Frozen Head, and Upper Cumberland Areas of Interest (as designated by the Heritage Conservation Trust Fund) and the Catoosa/Emory River Conservation Opportunity Area. It also provides vital habitat for high-priority species including green salamanders. This park expansion also lies within one of TennGreen’s strategic focal areas—the Emory watershed—and was made possible through a generous grant from The Nature Conservancy, via Justin P. Wilson. The Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Park stretches more than 300 miles across eastern Ten...

33 Years ago a urban legend and a actual event and book sparked a movie and some sequels

Bloody Mary  is a  legend  of a  ghost , phantom,  witch , or spirit  conjured  to reveal the future. She is said to appear in a mirror when her name is chanted repeatedly. The Bloody Mary  apparition  may be  benevolent  or  malevolent , depending on historical variations of the legend. Bloody Mary appearances are mostly witnessed in group participation play. Historically, the  divination  ritual encouraged young women to walk up a flight of stairs backward holding a candle and a hand mirror, in a darkened house. As they gazed into the mirror, they were supposed to glimpse a view of their future husband's face. In the  ritual of today , Bloody Mary allegedly appears to individuals or groups who ritualistically invoke her name in an act of  catoptromancy . This is done by repeatedly chanting her name into a mirror placed in a dim or candle-lit room. More modern versions of the ritual are played in a restroom...

Tennessee State Farm in legal issues

Image
The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals gave the green light for a massive class-action lawsuit against State Farm to move forward. We’re talking about 90,000 individuals banding together to challenge how State Farm calculated insurance payouts for totaled vehicles. The suit claims that the insurance giant used a flawed valuation method provided by a third-party company, Audatex. The plaintiffs argue this adjustment unfairly reduced the payouts policyholders received for their vehicles. The alleged average reduction? 8.5%. Policyholders say that’s no small change. The suit digs deeper, claiming the adjustment is arbitrary, unsupported, and doesn’t reflect how real-world car sales actually work. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill lawsuit. The case began in May 2020 when Jessica Clippinger, a policyholder, had her 2017 minivan totaled. After receiving a payout she felt was too low, she filed suit, claiming State Farm was shortchanging customers. The case was filed in Tennessee’s state court but ...

Tennessee Explosion update

Accurate Energetic Systems is a defense and commercial explosives manufacturer. Documents (https://www.wkrn.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/73/2025/10/1395197-Accurate-Energetic-Systems-LLC-Summary-Citations-Contestment-REDACTED_Redacted.pdf)revealed that there were several Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration violations at the facility. In 2019, the company received “serious” citations related to residue of cyclonite, an explosive powder, in areas where employees are permitted to consume food and drink. Cyclonite “could result in central nervous system impairment.” That same year, two employees experienced seizures and had the potential to be exposed to cyclonite while working in what documents called a “Hot House.” A discussion between an employer representative and a TOSHA representative evolved to a discussion about personal protective equipment. The serious violation found that “the employer had not ensured that surfaces in the break room including the table and mi...

Tennessee Department of Corrections salaries of liars

Image
Let me tell you about TDOC and how it is being ran. They have money they are just putting it in the wrong place. They would rather show the Office of Inspector General during an inspection a fully staffed and functioning facility. When in reality the day after inspection buildings are left with two officers running it when there should be four. They write up officers who do a job that can be dangerous and do what they can to go home to their families and children. Yet the administration that has never worked as an officer or never step foot in a prison in Nashville tie the facility administrators hands. They write up officers who violate policies to ensure they and their fellow officers go home. Yet there is no disciplinary action for the bosses who violate policy. But those bosses will seek disciplinary actions against the officer who is doing the best they can. In 2023, Frank Strada earned $221,400 by working as a Commissioner 3 at the Tennessee Department of Correction. His salary w...

Chicago animal shot after she pulled a gun on federal agents

Image
A Chicago animal armed with a semiautomatic weapon was shot by U.S. Border Patrol agents Saturday morning on Chicago’s South Side, marking the second shooting since President Donald Trump’s administration launched an aggressive immigration enforcement operation in the area last month. Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, said the shooting erupted after patrolling agents were “rammed by 10 cars” and “boxed in.” Agents then fired “defensive shots” when they discovered the woman “was armed with a semi-automatic weapon” while driving one of the cars. The time and location of the shooting weren’t immediately known. No law enforcement officials were hurt. McLaughlin said the woman who was shot “drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds.” But Larry Merritt, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman, said she was found near 39th Street and South Kedzie Avenue and taken in fair condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The woman who was shot had been identifie...

Acima again in the highlights

Image
If you are currently thinking about doing any type of business with Acima in the Oak Ridge, Tn . Electronic Express you better think twice. See they are an affiliate of Rent A Center. Yep I said it Rent A Center. Well in July of 2024 the CFPB known as Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed a lawsuit against Acima for deceptive practices. What yes what they do is you make a payment on line then it makes automatic payments without your consent. When the customer asks for a refund they say they can’t cover the overdraft fee. The CFPB alleges Acima used deceptive dark patterns and other tricks to trap consumers in high-cost credit agreements to finance the purchase of household goods. Acima sought to disguise many of these credit agreements as leases to evade consumer financial protection laws. Due to Acima’s deception and obstruction, many consumers did not understand they were agreeing to expensive markups, exorbitant finance charges, and having few ways to escape their contracts. T...

Government shutdown what the news isn’t reporting

Image
The Democrats links funding the government through Oct. 31 to two of the party’s other priorities: health care assistance and placing limits on President Donald Trump’s ability to unilaterally roll back funds previously approved by Congress. Democratic Party offering health insurance coverage for immigrants without legal status. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, however, is demanding any funding bill contain an extension of the  enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies, along with several other items, to get his party’s support. Congress must provide funding for many federal departments and functions every fiscal year, which begins on October 1. If lawmakers fail to pass a spending package for the full year or extend funding for a shorter period, known as a continuing resolution, then many agencies and activities must shutter until Congress appropriates more money. Since 1980, there have been 14 government shutdowns, not counting the current impasse, according to the Bipa...
